The Xplorer Prize (科學探索獎) was set up in 2018 with an initial donation of RMB 1 billion from the Tencent Foundation. The Prize aims at encouraging and supporting young scientists to engage in basic science and cutting-edge technology research.

Applicants* should be young scientists aged 45 or below (with birthday after 1 Jan 1977) and are working full-time in scientific research in the following fields:

     (i) Basic Sciences (基礎科學領域)
         • Mathematics and Physics (數學物理學)
         • Chemistry and New Materials (化學新材料)
         • Astronomy and Geoscience (天文和地學)
         • Life Sciences (生命科學)
         • Medical Sciences (醫學科學) 

     (ii) Frontier Technologies (前沿技術領域)
        • Information and Electronics Technologies (信息電子)
        • Energy and Environmental Sciences (能源環境)
        • Advanced Manufacturing (先進製造)
        • Transportation and Architecture (交通建築)
        • Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies (前沿交叉)

* Each applicant may only submit one application for Xplorer Prize or New Cornerstone Investigator Program (新基石研究員項目) in the same year. Besides, awardee of New Cornerstone Investigator Program is not eligible to apply for Xplorer Prize. Please refer to the official website for details.

The Xplorer Prize will award 50 outstanding scientists each year and each of the winners will receive a total of RMB 3 million over five years.

All applications should be submitted via the application system of Xplorer Prize.
