The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) (國家自然科學基金) is inviting applications for the following Schemes:

  • Excellent Young Scientists Fund (HK and Macao) 優秀青年科學基金項目(港澳); and
  • Young Scientists Fund 青年科學基金項目 (New)

Internal Deadline:   17:00, 8 March 2022 (Tuesday)*

* Internal deadline is set in the NSFC electronic system (ES) and no new applications can be submitted in the system thereafter.

Funding Framework for 2022 Exercise –

   (I) Excellent Young Scientists Fund (HK and Macao) (II) Young Scientists Fund (New)
Nature  To nurture talented young researchers and to support them in developing their research capability in scientific frontiers. To nurture young researchers by enhancing their competence in undertaking innovative scientific research independently.
Funding Amount per Project
  • RMB 2,000,000 (Direct Cost + Indirect Cost)
  • RMB 300,000 (Direct Cost + Indirect Cost)
Project Duration
  • 3 years
  • 3 years
 Eligibility Requirements
  • Age:
    Male: 38 or below (DOB: on/after 1 Jan 1984);
    Female: 40 or below (DOB: on/after 1 Jan 1982)
  • Full time academic staff at Assistant Professor / Research Assistant Professor rank or above.
  • Age:
    Male: 35 or below (DOB: on/after 1 Jan 1987);
    Female: 40 or below (DOB: on/after 1 Jan 1982)
  • Postdoctoral fellows of HK/Macao institutions are not eligible.

(University’s internal PI requirement)
Award Quota for HK/Macao 25 Nil

Applications from HK and Macao will be assessed alongside with mainland applications.
Remarks

 

Application Procedure –

  1. proposal, completed in Simplified Chinese or English (in pdf format), which should be a submitted version generated from the NSFC ES (NSFC’s guide on application submission);
  2. Duly endorsed Declaration Form (original copy);
  3. CUHK research ethics approval (if necessary) (in PDF).

An acknowledgement email would be sent upon receipt of application materials.

  • Briefing sessions on the two schemes will be organized after CNY, please stay tuned for our further notice.
