  1. The fellowships are open to scientists employed on clinical teachers’ terms in medicine and dentistry, for relieving all teaching, clinical and administrative duties for a period of either six months OR one year to do full-time research. The reimbursement is equivalent to six to twelve months’ salary and a cash allowance of the type paid by the Hospital Authority to clinical medical staff payable to the replacement for the candidate selected for the award, subject to a limit to be prescribed by the Foundation, which currently stands at HK$ 211,780 per month, or HK$ $2,541,360 for the salary budget of the entire award. On top of the grant for the replacement teacher, the selected fellow will be offered a grant of maximum HK$2 million for his/her research work, upon submission of a research proposal and an estimate of costs. The grant will be released in two annual instalments.  If the selected fellow is not able to use up the HK$2 million grant in two years, he/she is advised to keep the Foundation informed of the progress by submitting an annual report and a summary statement of income and expenses until the grant is used up (in not more than five years).
  2. Selected candidates are expected to be staff on clinical teachers’ terms, who are Hong Kong permanent residents and aged between 40 and 55, have served the University for more than three years and undertook to continue their service for a minimum of three years at the University after completion of the fellowships. In the past, it has been noticed that most fellowship awardees were at a senior grade. Applicants who envisage difficulty in complying with the regulations for the fellowship scheme must not proceed with an application.
  3. All applications will be subject to selection by the Research Committee if the number of applications exceeds the institutional quota of 2. In this connection, kindly note that application materials should reach ORKTS by the internal deadline and late applications would not be accepted.
  4. For internal vetting and selection purposes, CUHK applicants please submit the following to Grants Team, ORKTS <orkts_grants@cuhk.edu.hk>; by the internal deadline:
    a) Application form (in PDF format), which should be generated from the Croucher Foundation online application system;
