It is common in startups to have limited funds to expand their business during the early stages, so it is very important for founders to make sure that the money is spent wisely. Under the new freelance economy, it may be a good idea to outsource your work to freelancers. A lot of founders would opt to offer equity instead of cash to get people working for them, but it may not be an optimal solution when you are not familiar with their ability, working attitudes and styles at the beginning - when you offer shares to someone, it essentially means that you have invited them onboard as one of your business partners.
