Flooding is devastating communities in many countries such as Vietnam due to lack of alerts for specific local areas, lack of real time flood information and due to the fact that many of these residents were unsure or didn't know where to access help once the floodwaters arrived. Therefore, this is where CommunIOTy comes in. CommunIOTy is a community-led disaster risk reduction (DRR) project to be piloted in Vietnam that increases the flood resilience of communities in flood-prone areas through education and innovation programs for locals that focus on co-developing IoT and AI technology-based solutions to collect real-time flood data for an end-to-end IoT-enabled flood monitoring and management platform that will provide advance flood warning systems for local areas and significantly improve flood mitigation, preparation, monitoring, response and recovery efforts. We will offer subscription plans to policymakers, government agencies and insurance companies for access to aggregate and anonymised data collected through the platform that can be used to develop comprehensive flood risk assessments. The insights from the platform's collected real-time flood data can also be used in consulting services we offer to insurance companies, urban planners, policy researchers interested in understanding flood patterns and trends. We are a multi-national team with teammates from Hong Kong, Australia, and Vietnam.
